Explore and analyze, in writing and reading, a variety of genres and rhetorical situations.
This idea was presented to us since the start of the semester. We wrote in all kinds of genres, such as a formal letter or an argumentative essay. Each genre of writing had its own conventions and that is the concept that we looked into all semester. Genre is no longer just fiction or non-fiction. Those are important to keep in mind, yes. But fully understanding genre requires a deep look into how a certain piece of writing is composed. When we are looking at argumentative essays, we are looking at a third person perspective, a stance, evidence, and a counterargument. Whereas with a letter, we look for a greeting, whatever the person wishes to ask of you, and a closing sendoff.
